- For the past two nights in a row now, Radley and I have gone out to Krystals at midnight and ordered their number 8 combo. Do you know what their number 8 combo is? Lemme just tell you then. Its 12 Krystals with two fries and two drinks. We split it because thats a lot to eat, man. The fun thing was that we ate some of them in one bite...that was tough. Hopefully tonight we can make it 3 in a row. Then who knows, maybe the streak will continue to a week, and then a month, and then a YEAR and then we'll finally reach our goal of getting SUPER FAT and having a massive heart attack!!! Ok, totally kidding on that one haha. But a week straight WOULD be cool.
-Beck showed me this thing online where you can map out a run using google's map thing. Supposedly, it's pretty precise. The reason I say supposedly is because, for instance, today I drew out an exactly-12-mile route on the program thing. And then just to have double confirmation, I decided to drive the route in my car and use the pedometer to measure it out. Well, that same 12 mile loop I mapped out on the computer turned out to be 12.9 miles in my car. Now that's a pretty big difference - 0.9 miles. One of the two HAS to be wrong. And I should hope its not my car because then my car has entirely way more mileage than it shows. So I'm thinkin the program is flawed bigtime. However, I ran it tonight, and if I'm going by my car's calculations, I ran 11.9 miles (did a 1 mile warmup) in 1:16 which is about a 6:23 pace and if I'm going by the program's result, I ran that same course at a 6:55 pace. Personally, I don't think I ran either of those paces because 6:23 is way too fast for ~12 miles, and 6:55 is way too slow. I think they're both wrong :).
-More randomness later, I'm tired

edit: Oh yeah, here's the link to that Google Map Pedometer - http://www.sueandpaul.com/gmapPedometer/ . Try it out! |
|
I ran 16 miles this morning. Yeah...16 miles, all at one time. Took me about an hour 48. Yeah...an hour and 48 minutes of straight running. Yeah...straight running, which means no stopping. YEAH. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, or put it in your mouth and chew on it...it tastes good, tastes like apples. How do you like them? Alright bye haha. |

Ever since my dentist appointment on July 21st, I've been flossing my teeth EVERYDAY! Thats 12 days straight! No gum disease for me because I am tartar-and-plaque free! Here's another sentence that ends in an exclamation point! And another one! |

Loving things like you has wrecked my life, made me cry Loving things like you has made me lose my mind And I can't figure out why I've been hanging on To all these things I've tried to leave behind me for so long
And I think it's time to find a better way to live my life Than loving all those things that keep me wrapped so tight
...
Why are we obsessed with possessions here on earth? Go and take a look at the flowers and the birds God is always taking care of nature's every need And how much more important in The Father's eyes are we? I said, how much more important in The Father's eyes are we? He sees everything

...I just got done talking to my coach...ONLINE. What has this world come to haha (jk)?! I will have to say though that it had to be the greatest Instant Message conversation of ALL TIME (that I've ever had at least). It started out with of course the simple introduction from him (because I sure didn't have his screen name...really didn't even know he had one) saying who it was and asking for me to respond if I got his message. Ok, so at this point I learn that he does actually have a screen name...and even MORE, he has MINE also. All I can say to that is good job, Coach, you know the ropes, man. So I say whats up and he lets me know whats goin on with him, which primarily consists of him being locked up in his office all day away from all civilized lifeforms and matters of said lifeforms (haha). Then as a coach would normally do, he inquired about my training. Then as an athlete would normally do, I told him just how it was going. Then as an old man would normally do, he said some really funny stuff...lemme just show you: Coach Cain: Sweet [in response to my training], I am thinking about leg replacements cause mine don't work anymore. Me: Aww, mine are working pretty good though...sorry to brag :) Coach Cain: Oh, to be young Me: Nah, you ain't an old man, yet... Coach Cain: There was a time a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when I was actually fairly fast. Me: HAHA! Coach Cain: Then I turned thirty, and it has been a struggle since. But just as there was a return of the jedi, there will be a sequel to The Coach Strikes Back!
As you can imagine, at this point I was crackin up, fallin out of my chair and what not . From this point on, it was nothin but laughs. I told him all about the ignorant people here in Tuscaloosa who love to yell at me when I'm running, and he tells me about not only ignorant people, but people who like to throw beer bottles at you while you run: Coach Cain: It gets worse when they throw beer bottles, I had that happen to me on Bailey Cove Road once. Me: yeah! speaking of that...that happened last week when I was running down the strip at the UA haha! Coach Cain: Did you run them down and show them who was boss Me: nah, I just thanked them for the refreshing ice cold beer Coach Cain: that a way to take it in stride!
Next topic for discussion was him telling me about how he and his wife we're going on a 5-day cruise to celebrate his 10-year aniversary. Of course it also got pretty interesting...: Me: yeah! that sounds like FUN! can I come? Coach Cain: yeah why not, we will just tell them you are our seven month old baby girl Me: ah no problem, I can pull that off Coach Cain: I figured so, I have some real cute outfits for ya Me: haha Coach Cain: I will try to bring you back a souvenir like a cup of salt water from the ocean Me: Dude...you know how much that will mean to me if you did that Coach Cain: I will see what I can do Me: haha I appreciate it Coach Cain: Will UPS deliver a paper bag full of water? Me: hey, so long as that paper bag is lined with plastic...theres guidelines for that kinda stuff
Funny, huh? Well, at this point he says that he ought to get back to working, seeing as how it was almost midnight and he was still in the office. So we start the goodbye/farewell process... Me: haha...alright. It was awesome gettin to talk to you on this instant messanger thing Coach Cain: I will give you a shout when I get back into town after next week. Over and out, 10-4, big fella Me: alright word up G...keep it real Me: peace out Coach Cain: I think we should keep the peace in
COACH! Haha, so much for a goodbye, because this just started more conversation. I was busting out laughing again and I let him know, to which he replies: Coach Cain: I am here for your entertainment
As you may have noticed, I called my 30 year old coach a G. Being white, however, I'm not completely sure on the meaning of it, but I have heard it thrown around amongst my former track brothas from high school. Coach doesn't know what it means either, so he inquires: Coach Cain: By the way what does the G stand for? Me: Gangsta (I think) Me: don't quote me on that Coach Cain: Well then I am definately your G Me: ah, so you willin to hook a brotha up Me: that's what I'm talkin about G Coach Cain: Yeah, but keep it on the down low, low down, no doubt
Oh and this... Me: HAHAHA Me: Fo shizzle Coach Cain: My nizzle Coach Cain: I am down with that.
After this we talked a good bit about his recruiting operations. Most of that is confidential so I will not make mention of any of it *_- . I helped him out pretty well with that...so well that he even said I should help out more often...sweet! And what followed this topic was EXTREMELY random...just have a look, and you'll see what I'm talkin about: Coach Cain: He has an odd last name [a possible recruit we were talking about] Me: Yeah I think it's Indian Me: from India Coach Cain: so not Apache Me: nah definitely not that...or Cherokee Coach Cain: or Chickasaw Me: or Sioux Coach Cain: or Choctaw Me: or Hitachi [yeah it's a Japanese brand of electronics, so what, it sounds Indian] Coach Cain: or Mohicans Me: LOL Coach Cain: I could go on and on.... Creek Coach Cain: or Braves Me: haha or Cheyenne Coach Cain: nice one Me: thanks Me: or Navaho Coach Cain: I can't match that Coach Cain: or maybe I can, Seminoles Me: oh yeah! Dangit! Coach Cain: or even Chipawah Me: haha OR... Me: Wichita Coach Cain: I don't think a town in Kansas counts Coach Cain: nice try though Me: haha, where do you think that town got its name??? Me: wooo...goteeem Coach Cain: there was never a tribe called the Whitchitas Me: oh...what are we doing here, what about the MOHAWKS Coach Cain: How could we forget Me: or wait Me: you said Mohicans... :( Coach Cain: I think we may have covered them all Me: yeah, you won, I suck at this game Coach Cain: Wait, what about the Cleveland Indians
HAHA...theres more, but I think thats about enough comedy for one journal entry.

...Has dawned upon me. I now know something I did not before, which makes me all encompassingly aware of that which was unbeknownst to me prior to this present moment, which completely restates what I said in the former part of this sentence. Yes folks, I now know that I can use the support beam under the gazebo in my backyard as a pull up bar! Isn't that just GREAT?!

| » Sorry guys... |
I haven't been able to update in the past few days because I was out of town. I spent the weekend in Huntsville, AL. The WDF race was this weekend, so I decided to go up there and hang out with the team and to run some. I got there Friday night and stayed until late Sunday night. Heres how it went:
Friday: Got in town around 8pm. Crashed into Mark's house. Called Reah and got her to come eat hole in the wall Chinese with us. Matt showed up there. After that, we drove to the Hollywood 18 theaters to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I thought it was quite eccentric, erratic, peculiar and every other adjective that is related to the word strange in any way. Ok that sounded retarded. Then after the movies me, matt, mark, and some other dude headed over to Eddie's house to go swimming while Reah hung out with her friends.
Saturday: Got up kinda late today because of the night before. Alex showed up and we all played Magic (first time for me) about until Matt showed up again. We all headed over to Subway for some lunch, and then hung out at Marks house for several hours until it was time to go to the WDF thing. With it being hotter than the hindges on the gates to hell, me justin sean and mark ran our tempo run while everyone else raced. AFterwards we hung out around Spraggins for several hours, helping clean up and playing hacky sack, frisbee, pogo, and roller blading. Then me and Mark headed over to AF to see if Reah was working, but she wasn't, so we went to Eddie's house again. This time a lot more people were there. I helped several people get to Eddie's house including Ben my roommate, Cody, and Reah. It was a lot of fun hanging out there in his pool and breaking things. AND THEN, after THAT a few of us headed to IHOP for some grub. Then I left with Mark and Alex while Reah hung out with Matt in the parking lot.
Sunday: Got up kinda early today for church after getting only about 5 hours of sleep. Mark and I headed to Ben's church, Madison Bible Church. We met Reah and Ben there. Church was good. After church we all went out to eat at Tellinis. Bread sticks are good. Then we dropped Reah off to let her study in her dorm while we went to Wal Mart. Then after that Mark and I went back to his house and took a few hour naps. When I woke up I called Reah to see if she wanted to go running with me at the mountain. She said yes. So we did. The run was great. I loved it. I probably said too much retarded crap, but oh well. Then after the run I dropped her back off at CCRH. I left while Reah went back inside and studied.
I got back home around 1am this morning. The end.

| » Ho-Kay, So! One day Mr. Henderson decides... |
...that I would NOT be doing inspections today, but instead cutting down trees! YEAH, sounds like FUN!!!@11![Is there a sarcasm font?]. He has this extremely wooded lot out on 69 that will soon have a septic tank installed on it, and he needed someone to go out there and clear a walk-way about 35-40 feet into it so he could inspect the land. So he hands me a bush axe, some work gloves, and a map and says "go to work, son." After a good 3.5-4 hours of hacking through the brush, cutting down trees, and making a pretty nice looking trail, and getting so sweaty it looked like a peed my pants, I got to go home.
It was nice to come home and find out that Lance was still in the lead after today's stage. But soon after finding that out, I had no other choice but to pass out on the living room couch for 4 hours.
And so now, as I'm typing this entry, I'm also icing a sore IT band...and its starting to crAMP! AHHHHHHH!!! THE PAIN!! MAKE IT STOP, MAKE IT STTOOOOPPP!!! ::breathes heavely then passes out:: ((sound of Brandon's head hitting the keyboard))t76mjnhu

| » See what had happened was... |
So today at work I went out to do my inspections. I expected them to go a lot faster than usual because all I was doing was inspecting storm damage instead of trying to speak with one of the workers to figure out what they were doing. Well I got to the first site and everything went well for the most part. I took a good bit of pictures for examples of what the storm had done (i.e. erosion, flooding, lopsided silt fences, and stuff like that) to show Mr. Henderson. Then when I thought I had sufficient evidence, I headed back to my car... but on the way there, I found something I hadn't seen the first time through: a mudhole. Man it was like quicksand that went up to my knees! And when I tried to get out, it was all like "nuh uh man, you're stayin right here!" and it pulled me back in with as much force as I put in trying to get out. It was a good thing I wore brown khaki pants and brown shoes. When I finally got outa that I had at least 6745 lbs of mud caked to my legs and shoes. That was real fun. So now I'm soaked in both sweat and mud (if its possible to be "soaked" in mud) - perfect condition to be in for driving!
In other news, Lance Armstrong regained the lead in the Tour de France today! He did AWESOME on the route from Grenoble to Courchevel. At the start of today, he was in 3rd place 2 minutes 18 seconds behind the leader, Jens Voigt of CSC. At race end, he was up 38 seconds on Rasmussen, while Jens Voigt had dropped all the way to 72nd place and over half an hour behind Lance...DAAAANG!
Well thats all for now...peace out y0!

| » It's time to update again |
Wow that was such a short break compared to my late 2 month stall. You see the thing is...is that I'm competing against someone, and I WILL NOT LOSE! I will update as often as I know how! YOU HEAR ME!! Once a day, twice day...47 times a day - whatever it takes! You update once in a day, I one-up that and update TWICE in a day. And these posts can't just be meaningless one-liners or two-liners either! They have to prove a point, make a statement, tell of an event, ETC.!! With that, I start my post...
So today has been real mellow. I haven't really done much besides sit around the house and get fat by eating brownies (ones that I made) and Golden Flake dip style potato chips. Oh yeah, and I ran earlier too. And I will be running later on today as well...::sigh::. Yeah this week I'm shootin for another 70 miles like I did last week. (Yes, I RAN 70 miles in one week). So far the summer's training has gone quite well with just a few minor aches and pains here and there. All said and done, it will have been the most miles I've logged in any one summer in my life. Guess that's a good thing since the more base I put in, the better runner I should be in the fall.
In other news, Hurricane Dennis came through yesterday...didn't hit too bad here in Tuscaloosa, but it tore up the gulf coast. A buttload of evacuees from down south rolled in and filled up shelters and hotels. Shoulda had a big Hurricane Dennis Party, that woulda been cool. Thats also why today's been real mellow - I didn't have to work today! Construction workers take a day off when everything's all wet. But thats not to say that I'm a construction work though...I'm an INSPECTOR! That's right, I just drive to different construction sites and well...inspect! That's primarily what I do in working for a civil engineering guy here in town. I am his "eyes." What's really cool, though, is that I think I'm about to start working on a project he has for me using AutoCAD...that should be more exciting than talking to ole hard hat bob down there at one of the sites. Talkin to him is like trying to make sense of person who runs 70 miles a week...you just can't do it! Anyway, I'm out...holla!

| » Woke up late today |
3pm is kinda late to wake up, but thats what time I woke up today. Ah
well, I got a good 13 hours of sleep. So I guess I'm well rested?
Anyway, I thought I'd get on here and letch'yall know what's up with
me....
We had a track meet yesterday. Again, another HOT one. Good thing
they had an indoor practice field for people to camp out in. So
that's pretty much where I stayed for the entire meet, up until time
for my warm-up/race/cool-down. As a result, I ended up missing
the entire meet. I'd have been drained for my race though if I
stayed out in the sun. ANYWAY..so when it came time for my
warm-up, it was scorching outside, and I had only intended to do about
a 10 minute routine. Ended up being around 27 or 28 minutes
because I freakin got lost in Mississippi State's campus. I was
worried that I wouldn't make it back in time for my race...so I started
asking people around me for the quickest way back to the track. I
thought it'd be a good idea since they all seemed to be MSU
students...NONE of them knew what I was talking about, much less where
it was...should have known better...duhhh this is Mississippi we're
talkin about here. So I eventually decided to go back the way I
came and luckily I got back in time for my race. There were 32
people in our race! Thats insane for 32 sweating and/or
condensating, malnourished, shortie shorts wearin' runner-guys to
be on the track running five freakin' thousand meters at the same
time. As you can imagine, I got boxed in pretty well on the first
2 laps, but eventually people started dying out, and I was able to run
smoothly for the rest of the way. Well I ended up finishing 5th
or 6th (2nd place for non-DI) with a 15:34. I guess it's not too
bad considering it was SO hot. Besides running, I was able to get
in some quality hacky sack playin time while in the indoor practice
field. It was fun.
Well its kinda late in the day...I guess I better get something done.
Shalom,
Brandon

| » Well... |
...Just got back from taking two quizzes; one in DE, and another in Cal C. I think I did a lot better than I thought I was gonna do on the DE quiz, even though I know I screwed up the final answer on one problem, and then Dr Cook said something about the way I did another problem...but hopefully he'll be nice, and I can get at least a 20/25. The other quiz didn't go so well...I had NO IDEA what I was doing, considering the fact that I spent all of my study time last night just for the DE quiz, and I haven't been keeping up with the homework. I had answers for both of them, but I have no clue if they're right. Ah well...I'm definitely feeling the effects of poor studying habits from earlier in the semester, and it sucks because I have recently made some smart decisions to improve myself and do better in class. I know that by the grace of God, I can continue such habits and then I should be fine for the finals. Just gotta keep the faith.
Well its time to get started studying for my statics test tomorrow...peace out.

Hey guys, I'm not gonna be using my AOL instant messanger for a while. Basically I let it take up too much of my time, and I think it's about time to let it go (at least for a while) after years of using it. Such an opportune time for me to do this seeing as how finals are really soon. I really have to hammer these next few weeks, and I don't want to waste it all on some instant messanger program. I really need to care more about what I'm doing instead of what others are doing nowadays. Sorry to sound selfish, but thats the way its gonna be. So...if any of you's happens to see me online...tell me to get off and go do something productive...thanks in advance.

| » Whats up folks |
So yeah the last two journal entrees were unsuccessful in keeping their
pictures. I dunno whats up with that. I think that the URL in which
they are located constantly changes. Its the stupidest thing ever.
Freakin webshots and yahoo! picures. Ah well...
We had a track meet yesterday in Memphis, TN. That place is a big
ghetto, no joke. But the college we went to was pretty nice...Rhodes
College. I had to run the first event...5000 meters. It was SOO HOT,
and so it was like my energy was zapped right when the gun went off. I
was running on fumes almost every step of the way. But *somehow*
I was able to still run under 16 minutes, and get 2nd place. I ran a
15:48, beating the guy in front of me by 10 seconds even though at one
point in the race he was way in front of me. The other guys didn't run
so hot either (it was probably because it was so hot...hmmm). Justin
went 16:12, Matt 16:28, Zach 16:48, and Cody 17:40 something. To make a
short meet shorter, our girls finished first overall, and I think our
guys got 2nd after a fast 4x400.
We got back here around 9:30ish. About an hour after that, I headed
down to 216 and watched a little bit of the Ultimate Fighting
Championship. Shamrock got whooped in like 2 minutes. Then after that
we busted out the footbag, and played for about the next 2 and a half
hours. So yeah after a long day in the sun, running a 5000 meter race,
warming and cooling down for a total of 7 or 8 miles, and then playing
hacky sack for 2.5 hours...I'm so very tired. Even now...3:30pm
the next day, I'm so bummed out. I slept till like 2pm.
Well time to start some DE...peace
-Later,
